Red Velvet Cake

Just the name"Red Velvet" gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling. The red coloring, the chocolatey flavor, along with our simple and gorgeous decoration make these little hearts the ideal gift for friends and families without spending a fortune! But if you like to bake & ready to have some fun in the kitchen, follow my recipe:

  • 2 1/2 cup flour

  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 teaspoon red food coloring (food coloring comes in both jell and liquid format, I use liquid)

How to make it?

  • In a large bowl or the bowl of your mixer, on medium speed beat the melted butter with sugar and mix well
  • Add eggs one at a time and beat well after each addition

  • Lower your mixer speed and alternately add buttermilk mix and flour mix; beginning and ending with flour mix
  • Divide the batter into your baking pans and place on the rack in the center
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes or until you insert a toothpick and it comes out clean
  • Remove the pan from the oven and remove the cakes from the pan; placing them on a wire rack to cool off
  • Refrigerate the cakes for about 8-12 hours before decorating
  • Now make a simple cream cheese frosting ( I usually use the recipe from
  • Frost each cake and place in the refrigerator for 15-20 minutes
  • Roll fondant out to a 1/4 inch thickness; and carefully lay over each cake as it shown in the picture
  • Cutting the extra fondant while ensuring that the Fondant is taking the shape of the heart
