Every year around this time, I make a batch of poached pears as I can't resist getting a bag full of these beauties. Normally, I peel the pears, but not with these baby pears. The have a soft skin and I'm going to leave the skin on.

I usually use poached pears to serve with vanilla ice cream. but today I'm using these to bake a almond pear tarts, so if you want to make almond pear tarts just follow this recipe:

Honey Poached Pears

Yields: 5-6 servings                         Bake time: 35-40 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 5-6 small comice pears
  • 3-4 tablespoons honey
  • 4 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 cup Moscato wine or other sweet dessert wine
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Process:

  1. In a enamel pot, combine all the ingredients and bring to a boil. Add the pears and lower the heat once you close the lid.
  2. Let simmer and cook the pears on low temperature for about 30 minutes. Once the pears are cooked you can gently remove them from the pot and let the syrup thickens.
  3. Once the pears are cooled, you can serve them with vanilla ice cream & pour some of the syrup over the ice cream, or use them to bake almond tart
